Football Squares
How to Play Football Squares
Basic Concept:
Each game consists of a 10×10 grid. Players “buy” grid spaces until all 100 squares are filled.
At the end of each quarter (or half or game, depending on the option chosen), the last digit of the cumulative scores of the two teams is mapped into the grid (one team’s score for the columns, the other for the rows).
The player who owns the square at the intersection of those last digits wins that payout.
Usually the score is compared 4 times — end of the 1st quarter, halftime, end of the 3rd quarter, and end of the game. However, the commissioner can set up the game to only compare scores at halftime or at game end.
How to Play:
From the Picks page, enter the initials you want to identify your picks and choose a color scheme by selecting your favorite team.
Hit the CLICK TO SET button.
Now choose your squares by clicking the BUY button in each square. Purchases are immediate — you don’t need to hit CLICK TO SET each time.
If you change your mind, hit SELL to release a square.
Note: if two people click BUY on the same square at almost the same moment, the square goes to the first click — the other player will see a notification.
Inputting Picks for Multiple Players:
A commissioner can create selections for multiple players using the Add Local Players button.
Once players are set up, use the Group Picks button to input or change picks on their behalf.
This feature is great for live Super Bowl parties so everyone doesn’t have to log in separately.
Options:
When Payouts Occur — Pay out at the end of each quarter, each half, or just at game end. The final payout is always at game end, not end of the 4th quarter if there is overtime.
Different Random Numbers Each Quarter — Use the same random numbers at each quarter (traditional) or generate a new set each quarter (reduces the advantage of getting 0,0 or 7,0).
Minimum Number of Squares — The commissioner can set the minimum squares each person must buy.
Maximum Number of Squares — The commissioner can set the maximum squares each person can buy.
Reveal Date — The commissioner sets when the random numbers are revealed. Default is at kickoff, but you can reveal earlier or immediately.
Deadline Date — The commissioner sets when the pool locks down. Choose NOW to close it immediately.
